Previous models were the MB168B, MB169B+, MB169C+, now MB16AC. Wonder why they took away the +? I think previous it meant the display was IPS instead of TN
From the amazon Q&A is looks like that model requires USB-alt modes to carry an embedded Displayport (hdmi?) signal; the new model will also work plugged into any random USB3.0 port without alt mode support.
If you look, you'll see that Asus lists 4 (four) laptops as compatible with the MB169C+. Should work with TB3 laptops, and non-TB-but-with-DP-alt-mode devices, too.
This new one works with USB 3.0. (USB 3.1 gen 1) as well as DP-alt, so we ought to get the best of both worlds- compatibility, and low latency when supported.
The MB16AC is showing as $249 on Amazon and B&H Photo Video. It may/not be the MSRP but appears to be the retail launch price which is the more important number anyway.
"Power consumption is listed as 8W or less on average, which is fine for a USB Type-C port, but that load will probably need to be split across two USB 3.0 Type-A ports."
I just ordered the AOC i1659fwux from Amazon. Is the USB-C, pen and case, worth an extra $100? I certainly don't think so. It's nice that you can still use A ports though. And I am missing something? Doesn't look like you can use the pen on the screen so what's the point of including it?
I don't think it comes with the pen. From Asus's product page:
"ZenScreen MB16AC also has a smart pen hole in the bottom right-hand corner, where you can insert a pen to prop the screen up when not using the smart case."
I might not be the target audience for something like this, but I would very much like the option of an HDMI input to hook this up to a game console. Maybe that's just me.
Guys, me and a lot of SFF road warriors have been drooling over these ASUS monitors for a while now.......but is there any way to connect these monitors to the GPU directly? so that they can pick up the boot screen as well? and I imagine direct link to the gpu would also reduce latency ?

Does it support Pen and touch? Not listed but the mention of a pen with matching name suggests it does.leecbaker - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link
How is this different to the existing Asus MB169C+? That one has been available for a while, and the specs seem very similar.ZeDestructor - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

At 18.4", it would have been an insta-buy for me.As a road warrior, I've often multiple docs, config windows open, and I don't always have the luxury of stealing a customer monitor to help me out.

I wonder how much power that thing consumes.DanNeely - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link
