Does it support Pen and touch? Not listed but the mention of a pen with matching name suggests it does.

How is this different to the existing Asus MB169C+? That one has been available for a while, and the specs seem very similar.

    Thinner bezels...

Is Asus using Hex in their naming convention?
    MB169.. ->MB16A...
    Is the MB16BC next?

I kinda hope so.. would be nice

Previous models were the MB168B, MB169B+, MB169C+, now MB16AC. Wonder why they took away the +? I think previous it meant the display was IPS instead of TN

From the amazon Q&A is looks like that model requires USB-alt modes to carry an embedded Displayport (hdmi?) signal; the new model will also work plugged into any random USB3.0 port without alt mode support.

If you look, you'll see that Asus lists 4 (four) laptops as compatible with the MB169C+. Should work with TB3 laptops, and non-TB-but-with-DP-alt-mode devices, too.

This new one works with USB 3.0. (USB 3.1 gen 1) as well as DP-alt, so we ought to get the best of both worlds- compatibility, and low latency when supported.

    Price: N/A

    Then who cares?
  • ciparis - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

    It's $249 -- there's a link to Amazon right in the article.

The MB16AC is showing as $249 on Amazon and B&H Photo Video. It may/not be the MSRP but appears to be the retail launch price which is the more important number anyway.

At 18.4", it would have been an insta-buy for me.

As a road warrior, I've often multiple docs, config windows open, and I don't always have the luxury of stealing a customer monitor to help me out.
  • Notmyusualid - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

In addition, pen input would be quite useful too...
  • Infy2 - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

I wonder how much power that thing consumes.
  • DanNeely - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

"Power consumption is listed as 8W or less on average, which is fine for a USB Type-C port, but that load will probably need to be split across two USB 3.0 Type-A ports."

    Hell yes! Finally!

I just ordered the AOC i1659fwux from Amazon. Is the USB-C, pen and case, worth an extra $100? I certainly don't think so. It's nice that you can still use A ports though. And I am missing something? Doesn't look like you can use the pen on the screen so what's the point of including it?
  • DanNeely - Wednesday, May 24, 2017 - link

I don't think it comes with the pen. From Asus's product page:

"ZenScreen MB16AC also has a smart pen hole in the bottom right-hand corner, where you can insert a pen to prop the screen up when not using the smart case."

DisplayLink? Yeah, but it looks like it can handle DisplayPort too? Guess it has some use.
  • Valantar - Thursday, May 25, 2017 - link

I might not be the target audience for something like this, but I would very much like the option of an HDMI input to hook this up to a game console. Maybe that's just me.
  • GrumpyRobin - Thursday, May 25, 2017 - link

Guys, me and a lot of SFF road warriors have been drooling over these ASUS monitors for a while now.......but is there any way to connect these monitors to the GPU directly? so that they can pick up the boot screen as well? and I imagine direct link to the gpu would also reduce latency ?
